Now for something completely different…

This isn’t a blog post. Well, not one written by me, anyway.

LAF_2842 - Version 2

But since this space is all about me and what I think, what better place to share exciting news about my writing?

I’m delighted to announce that I am now an official contributor to Eclectablog. It’s an outstanding source of news and commentary, and I’m honored to be part of the team.

You can read the official announcement and an interview with me here.

To quit or not to quit

I have never been a quitter. In fact, go ahead and tell me I can’t do something. I’ll just be that much more likely to do it.

But National Blog Posting Month is killing me. It’s not writing the posts themselves. It’s fitting them in with everything else. I’m super-busy at work, the holidays are approaching way too fast, and other opportunities I don’t want to pass up are presenting themselves. Not to mention the normal stuff of daily life. Writing a blog post every single day is falling down the list of priorities — and fast.

Even more to the point, though, is the fact that I don’t want to crank out blog posts simply out of a sense of obligation. I want them to be outstanding. I want them to be pieces I enjoy writing and other people want to read.

I haven’t decided for sure yet, but I may let National Blog Posting Month go by without me.

I love the idea and adore the discipline. But there may not be room in my life to do it well enough to make it satisfying.

Maybe if I try being less of a perfectionist, I can pull it off. I’m keeping this post short and not worrying about links and photos and such.

If I do decide to give up the daily blog grind, I’ll still keep blogging on a regular schedule. Just one that makes more sense. One that means never having to say, “I’m sorry. That blog post wasn’t my best work.”

Sick as a dog but still wrote my blog

When I’m unwell, bad rhymes and tired phrases are sometimes all my brain can muster.

Clearly, I’m sick, to write a headline like that.

This is why I begged an extra day on a story I owed an editor today. I just couldn’t do good work.

But it’s exactly one week today since I began the National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) challenge. I knew it wouldn’t be easy finding something to write about every day. Coming up with ideas actually hasn’t been so tough – some days I’ve even posted twice, I’ve been so inspired.

But I didn’t count on getting sick. I now realize that I also didn’t plan very well for unexpected work projects, volunteering activities or other commitments. Or things like seeing friends, listening to music, reading, watching movies and, you know, having fun.

Of course, all those things are fuel for the blog, which is good. I’m almost always in the mood to write something.

But you really don’t want to read about my illness today. Honest, you don’t.

So I’ll just leave it at this: I managed to write my post today and now I’m going back to bed.
